Egyptian Pyramids
Located on the Giza plateau, 18 kilometers from Cairo, the Pyramids are not only the most important monuments in Egypt, but also the oldest in the world. These are funerary constructions that were built under the orders of pharaohs of different dynasties. The three main pyramids at Giza are Cheops, Khafre, and Menkaure. Besides these there are many other minor pyramids.
Cheops: Also known as the Great Pyramid of Giza, Cheops (Khufu) is the largest pyramid, as well as the most important of all. It has a height of 140 meters and stands on a huge base of 230 meters (almost 1 kilometer in perimeter).
Kefren: Khafre's Pyramid is the second largest in Egypt after Cheops. It is currently the only one of the pyramids that still retains a small part of its old white limestone coating on top.
Micerinos: The Pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest of the group, but no less interesting for that. It has a height of 66 meters and its base is just over 100 meters on each side.
