The Eiffel Tower in France
Built in 1889 for the Universal Exposition, the Eiffel Tower became the main symbol of Paris and is the most visited monument in the world. With a design created by Gustave Eiffel, the construction of the Eiffel Tower lasted just over two years and 250 workers worked on it. Initially, the tower was the subject of controversy: the artists of the time considered it monstrous and, given its low profitability at the end of the exhibition, the possibility of demolishing it on different occasions was raised. At the beginning of the 20th century, with the advent of the world wars, the authorities found their use as a radio broadcast antenna and with it they captured messages that helped the allies in a decisive way.
Currently and thanks to the rise of Paris as an international tourist destination, the Eiffel Tower is the most visited monument in the world with more than 7 million annual visitors.
